Camaragibe is a Brazilian municipality in the state of Pernambuco (PE). It belongs to the Metropolitan Region of Recife and is its sixth most populous municipality (behind Recife, Olinda, Jaboatão dos Guararapes, Paulista, and Cabo de Santo Agostinho) and the eighth in Pernambuco.
The city’s main tourist attraction is the Aldeia district, where the highest part of Camaragibe is located, drawing a larger number of visitors to the municipality. With a pleasant climate and lush greenery, the area is home to several country clubs that rent horses, spas, cozy restaurants, and countryside hotels. Especially on weekends, there is heavy traffic of cars heading up Aldeia Hill with passengers eager to enjoy the tranquility of the countryside in comfortable chalets, located on rural properties surrounded by fruit trees and flowers. Just 16 km from Recife, the area has already become a permanent residence for many people who commute daily to work and return at night to the calm of the countryside.
> History
The area where the municipality of Camaragibe is now located was inhabited by indigenous minorities until the arrival of the Portuguese with Duarte Coelho Pereira in the mid-16th century.
The land was used for the extraction of brazilwood and, later, for sugarcane production.
The municipality emerged from the old sugar mills, such as Camaragibe, founded in 1549 and considered one of the most prosperous in the region until the Dutch invasion in 1645. The mill was burned down by indigenous tribes living in the area.
Between 1891 and 1895, a textile factory was established by engineer Carlos Alberto de Menezes, together with French engineer Pierre Collier, which changed the appearance of the area.
On December 20, 1963, State Law No. 4,988 elevated the district to municipality status, which was abolished on July 6, 1964, by ruling of the Court of Justice (writ of mandamus No. 59,906), and its territory was reattached to the municipality of São Lourenço da Mata. It was only elevated again to municipality status on May 13, 1982, when it was separated from São Lourenço da Mata, according to Law No. 8,951, published in the Official Gazette of the State of Pernambuco on that date.
>> 4 TIPS TO HELP YOU CHOOSE THE IDEAL PROPERTY TO BUY: >
Do not think only about your current marital status. Real estate is very durable. Therefore, it is important to choose not only based on today, but also on your life plans. It is possible to find houses and apartments of various sizes, and this will also influence the number of bedrooms the property has. If you intend to live alone, assess whether the property you are about to acquire will meet your needs for at least the medium term. A one-bedroom apartment for a single person, for example, can accommodate a future spouse and even a baby in a crib. But if starting a family is closer to your reality, it may be ideal to consider properties with 2 or even 3 bedrooms. This way, you ensure a home that will accommodate your life plans.
> Location is a relevant factor. Check whether the properties you are considering are well located. This does not mean being in a central area, but having good infrastructure nearby to meet daily and unexpected needs. Get to know the neighborhood: check whether there are pharmacies, bakeries, supermarkets, health clinics, schools, as well as good public transportation coverage. This will be necessary and, in the end, may save you a great deal of effort.
> Assess whether the “utilities” meet your needs: number of bathrooms, parking spaces, elevator, accessibility, built-in closets… Each has its usefulness depending on the need, and therefore must be taken into consideration. For those who own cars or motorcycles, not having a parking space can generate a high monthly cost that, in the end, will be much more expensive than making a slightly larger investment for these features, for example. The same applies if an apartment does not have a utility area that can accommodate a washing machine. With the rush of everyday life, it is not always possible to wash clothes by hand, and the lack of space for a washer can lead to recurring laundry expenses that would make it unfeasible to cover all costs. Therefore, pay attention to your needs, calculate everything carefully, and make a choice that is better aligned and viable.
> Check whether your dream fits your financial reality: you may dream of having a larger apartment, with a laundry area, spacious bedrooms, and everything else. However, before you start looking, be realistic: assess your financial possibilities. Even with a good down payment helped by FGTS, financing can be expensive due to interest rates, and no one knows what tomorrow will bring. So do not aim higher than you can afford. Evaluate the available budget, run simulations if financing is involved, and only then begin your property search. This way, you can align your dream with your reality and avoid taking on something you will not be able to fulfill. By following these tips, you will certainly make a more advantageous deal. So be sure to consider these points!
